Project: BlackFACE is a THiNK Responsibly cultural study of how ignorance becomes performance—and performance becomes profit.
The project intentionally invokes the history of blackface as a symbol of caricature, exploitation and pain converted into public entertainment. However, its examination extends beyond racism. It confronts the larger social theater in which dysfunction, stereotypes, outrage, trauma and identity are exaggerated for attention, packaged as culture and monetized by systems that reward spectacle.
Within Project: BlackFACE, the face is the identity presented for public consumption. The show is the attention economy. Laughter becomes engagement. Admission becomes participation. The main attraction is whoever is being exploited—or exploiting themselves—for visibility at that moment.
Everyone has a potential role: performer, promoter, consumer, critic or silent observer. The project therefore asks more than who is being mocked. It asks who is watching, who is profiting, who keeps applauding and what we surrender when attention becomes more valuable than awareness.
Ignorance is the product. Attention is the currency. We are all part of the show.
